Love Has Come

Saturday, 24 January 2015 00:00

There's a saying that my family has that's stuck with me my whole life.

"Give me my flowers while I still live"

As I reflect on how special today is for a dear friend who's known me her whole life, I wanted to pause and give her some flowers. She has been there for every bruise, heartbreak, my parents' divorce, many of my firsts, and much more. You see, this woman isn't just any woman. I think about her today and am so thankful that God chose her for me. One thing you don't get to do in this world is choose blood, God does that. I can honestly say that my sister is one of the kindest, tenderhearted, beautiful, loving, courageous, strong, supportive, uplifting, always has my back, fun loving, contagious laughing women that I know.

Her smile lights up a room, and her sneeze (yup, her sneeze) will make anyone laugh. I'm serious; it's hilarious hearing her go "Ahhh tii - tiii - tiiii- tchuuuuewww". Cracks me up every time. I can't tell you how often I've prayed for her and those prayers have been prayers of thanksgiving. Thanking God for giving me a sister like her. I wouldn't trade her Waxahachie High School days for anything. I say that because I was her annoying brother, yes, her annoying brother who had a crush on all her friends. I even remember thinking that maybe one of her friends would ask me to her Sr. prom. Foolish, I know, but hey you gotta be optimistic right!?

Just like most siblings, college didn't just put miles between us, but the distance brought us closer together as siblings. She's one of my best friends in the world and today I celebrate not only her life, but I celebrate that I've been blessed to be a part of her life all these years. Nuny, aka NuNu, aka Renee I love you and am humbled that I get to call you my sister. It is truly a privilege. Happy Birthday.

Nothin' but Love,
